What does one say to a friend who has just announced her engagement to a man who has, on more then one occasion, beat the living crap out of her? The last time, he put her in the hospital. Somehow, "Congratulations!" just doesn't seem appropriate. And I don't believe "What the FUCK are you thinking?" would go over well. Any suggestions?

Yes, she is. I guess the only thing her friends can do is stand back & wait & hope that one day she comes to her senses and leaves/asks for help leaving. Preferably before he half kills her again. Sigh. I am not good at the whole stand back & wait thing. I always feel like there something I should be doing to fix the situation, and this one is not fixable. Not by me, anyway.
And the number of "Yay, a wedding" comments in response to her facebook post announcing her engagement was astonishing, given that every single one of the comments was from someone with full knowledge of the situation. And this is why there are days I much prefer cats to people. You never see a cat do something this stupid.
