Thoughts on 커피프린스~!
I haven't been writing as much as I usually do, so here's my ramblings on what I've discovered from and noticed about "Coffee Prince".
There's TOTALLY a reason any "Baby V.O.X alumnae" is an interest in my profile. Those girls are up for greatness.
OK, so Eunhye's (from Baby V.O.X) presence in the drama Goong is what started my descent into the wonderful world of dramas. And This summer I was all ready to watch and be enveloped in Eunhye's new drama "The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince" (커피프린스 1호점). However, do to an unfortunate computing incident, I wasn't able to download videos via bittorrent anymore. I got to DL the first video but as it was unsubbed and I know next to nothing of Korean, I was SOL in the area of watching my lovely Eunhye's new drama.
Fast forward to a couple months later and the discovery of crunchyroll/mysoju. (both of which are wonderful gifts to the world) It was one of the first dramas I looked for on the sites, but even after trying the various re-uploads the videos never worked.
... Until now! Whaaahahaha. Last weekend I sat down and watched all 17 fantastic episodes, and it's officially become my favorite drama from Korea-lands. (and maybe of all time? :O)
Eunhye's acting has gotten so much better! She was pretty awesome in Goong, but has improved like CRAZY. It might be partially to the script, but yeah. There's a reason she got a $2 million contract.
But in the special she said she isn't an actor because of her looks. Pfffft. If she's not considered pretty, I don't know how I'd feel about Korean views on beauty.
One of the weird differences between this and other dramas I've seen are the kisses: usually in K-/J-dramas you have very awkward forced kisses that usually happen only at the end when the two people finally get together. Someone like Aya Ueto doesn't do them at all. (ex: in Abarenbo Mama's Wedding scene, they stop the scene with the main characters an inch apart.) Complete opposite of telenovellas, where people are going at it within the with 10 minutes.
But here the scenes were akin to American TV, quite like those of Gilmore Girls. Which was just WEIRD to watch for the first time being in Asian drama-mode.
The Eunhye/Gong Yoo romance is the highlight of the series. The other artist/musician one is kinda weird. That one is a bit more complex, but they don't go into much detail, nor do they have that much screen time, so it seems it's all jumbled. But focusing on the 2 couples equally wouldn't be practical, so it's a sacrifice needed to be made I guess.
Ooh, did I mention that Eunhye is awesome? And she's looking so nice these days! Like Boris said after I showed her some pictures of her from BBV-time and now, she looks younger now than when she was 17. Which is just crazy.
So along with this, Eunjin's music and Joseon-dynasty drama acting, Miyoun's music and stronghold in China, and EZ rockin' the TV show hostings, the former members of BBV aren't doing too bad for themselves. HeeJin just needs to do something other than modeling in magazines.
OH OH OH. And Sweeney Todd is the best movie ever! And Tim Burton's best since Sleepy Hollow. I need the soundtrack, and need to see it again. <3
