I know it's been a really long time since I've posted. Sorry about that. I don't even remember the last thing I wrote about.
So here's a recap.
Everything is fine here in Kure. Last weekend was my JHS culture fest. Though to those who haven't experienced a culture fest before, it's basicallly school culture, not Japanese culture. There was some speeches in English, singing contest between all the classes and some bands playing. All around it was a good time, but a bit annoying that they always fall on a weekend. Because all the teachers and students participate in the culture fest on a weekend they get monday off. Unfortunetly, I work at a diffrent school on monday and I don't get that day off.
I'm here today at my tuesday school where, like every other tuesday for the past two months, teachers are scrambling because suddenly they have English, and didn't schedule it in. (DISPITE THERE IS A GODDAMN SCHEDULE ON THE GODDAMN BOARD AND I'M HERE EVERY GODDAMN TUESDAY Dispite that the teachers make a schedule a month in advance and keep it where they can all see it. ) When this happens usually classes get moved around. Suddenly science is in the 5th period not 4th, or English classes get moved to the next week. After this happening a few times I made sure to mention to teachers the week before that, hey, English next week, 3rd period, keep that open.
Today, as per usual, I came in to find the English schedule a mess of red with things being moved around. Moments before 3rd period (English) was about to start the teacher said, "Oh, um, English in 6th period Ok? I forgot science is in the 3rd period. " Sure. Whatever. Sigh. ALT award winning smile.
To their defence, these classes are in Elementary school and they are in the first 4 grades of Elementary. Only in the past 2 years or so has English been manditory in grades 5 and 6 but it isn't manditory in grades 1-4. So they're not used to having an extra subject put into their schedule once a month.
But still. I could have knit a scarf waiting around for classes these days.
Now, I have only two classes today, in 5th and 6th period. I've spent the whole morning prepping for this week and today's lessons, so atleast I've been a bit busy. Now it's jsut a matter of waiting for Elementary School Lunch.
I'm not sure I have the words to properly describe how much I love lunch in ES. Usually it's nothing special veggy/meat soup, rice or bread, milk and some other starchy protein. But really, I love it so much. It makes me happy. So happy. Perhaps because when I first started teaching here at my tuesday school I'd have more than two classes a day and they'd be in the morning. So by the time lunch rolled around the whole school smelled amazing and I'd be hungry as a wolf.
In other news, last year I went as Pikachu for Halloween, this year I'm working on a totoro costume. It won't be a giant fur suit sadly. But it should be recognizable.
LUNCH IS HERE OMG YAY.
