Fabulous Weekend!

It is funny that when I was headed into this weekend, I actually thought it was going to be fairly quiet, with not much going on. It seems I was wrong.

It started off with some shopping with my husband on Friday afternoon (I finish work at 12:30 on Fridays) that turned out to be a distraction so people could decorate my house. I got home at 6:15 to find a surprise Baby Shower planned in my house! It was absolutely fabulous! They had awesome decorations, great food, fun games, and most importantly, fantastic friends! Thank you so much to everyone who came, and especially to Mandi, Gina, and Cory who did the prep work and the clean up afterward. That's right, the party was at my house, and I did not have to do an ounce of clean-up! It was fantastic.

Saturday night was Dave and Bevin's wedding reception. We got to see lots of people I haven't seen in a while, which was great. The reception itself was amazing. They did a traditional Scottish hand-fasting ceremony (the Christian version, not the pagan version), and there was tons of great food and great company. They even had a wedding cake in the shape of a snake (with a bride and groom in the mouth). While I do not like snakes, I have to admit, it was very well done and quite appropriate, given the couple.

On Sunday, after church was another surprise shower, this time from the church ladies. So there was more good food, and more spoiling of the Baby. This week was "Focus on Children" week, so we had let the children vote on which songs to sing during service. The last song has actions, and I usually lead the congregation in the actions, so the children joined me this week. At the end, the minister's wife asked me to help her take the kids downstairs, and I guess as soon as I left, they put a slide up on the PowerPoint inviting people downstairs for the shower! And when I came downstairs with the children, everything was set up, and there was a "Surprise!". Very fun and unexpected.

On Monday, Ian headed to Hamilton for an FA plot meeting. He left strict instructions with the Baby that he was not to be born while he was gone. The Baby listened. In the meantime, I did a bunch of tidying up and writing of thank you notes. I have managed to send notes for 2 out of the 4 showers now, so I just have notes from this weekend to go. I feel proud that I have kept on top of this, as I am usually pretty bad at writing thank you notes.

And suddenly the weekend was over! This is my last week at work before I start my maternity leave, and I am working from home. On Friday I will go into the office to return the laptop and pass on any of my work to my colleagues, and then I will be off work for the next 4 months. It's a little strange to think about not working for that long, but I know Baby will keep me busy once he arrives. Ian is just worried about how I will keep myself busy before he arrives. Maybe he will just come this week, and I won't have to worry about it!

It seems I have ended up writing a bit of a novel, so I will stop now. Thanks again to everyone who was involved in making this weekend awesome!
