First: excellent chapter. Lonnnng chapter, but I think it's the best one yet. Rich, varied and exciting.

The aulu stuff is heart-pingingly nice, but the garden symbolism is even better. The salty white roses, the chains --The more I yield to him, the fewer the chains, gah. Her destroying the temples for him, for all of them. There was a set-up I didn't see, and it works wonderfully.

The cactus bit is funny, a nice break in a piece like this.

And Wakka! And Rikku. I've always loved them together myself. What a knuckle-biting place to end, hah.

I should have broken this into two chapters, but I've promised vandavere over and over that the Wakka chapter was just 2-3 chapters away for far too long. I sad last week that he'd be in chapter 16.

It works, anyway. Anyone who's still reading at this point will not give up because it's long, as long as I get back down to 1600 or so words again after this. I've been creeping up into the 2200-2500 range again.

I'm so glad you love this. I've been waiting so long to write this part. Lulu's words about why she's destroying the temples -- that speech is almost the first thing I wrote of this story after I decided to expand it from the original pyreflies oneshot. But notice Lulu's final words. She's still holding something back, still resorting to half-truths.

I'm boggling. Apart from Lulu's "I destroyed the temples" speech, everything came out in a continuous stream last night between about 7 and 10PM.

I should also note that I've been reading large chunks of logistika_nyx's pieces lately to help shake me out of the same old, same old. Her writing is baroque, yet ( ... )

Looks like Wakka has long since lost his extreme respect for "The Legendary Guardian"...

Of course, he might actually consider Auron responsible for the deaths of Yuna, and Tidus-a man he considered another brother-and also for what has happened to Lulu...

So...

I'm not surprised Wakka's pissed. Just worried... ;)

Remember how hardcore Wakka was in the teachings of Yevon, and when he learned the truth, he was so bitter and angry. "They treated us like dirt" and "Nothin' but a buncha tricksters!" are two quotes he used late in the game to say exactly how angry he was.

Or remember how he tried to beat Luzzu to a pulp and had to be restrained, because Luzzu talked Chappu into joining the Crusaders.

Wakka doesn't take betrayal lightly.

And yeah, he blames Auron for encouraging Yuna to continue her pilgrimage when Auron knew that Sin wouldn't die, and Yuna and Lulu would. (Or worse.)

ACK! heh, I remember when we discussed this 'reunion' with Wakka. Ooooooooooh man! heheh you made it even better than I imagined. And they so would've named their daughter after Yuna too.

Heh. I can't remember what we discussed anymore, apart from the fact that Wakka and Rikku had a family on Bikanel and might slam the door in Auron's face. The scenario morphed a bit along with the plot, but same general idea. :)

well the major part we discussed was Wakka smacking a punch right in Auron's face and I just hit that part in the next chapter. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I wanted to work in, "Luzzu hit me, too," but it didn't fit the flow.

Auron, Legendary Punching Bag of Spira...
