Another one of those semesters...

Yep been in school for a while and I can see that it is going to be "one of those semesters". For those of you who don't know about "those semesters" they involve a lot of studying and a lot of face melting. On the bright side, I did manage to get my major changed to a double major (Biological Science and Medical Technology).

Pathogenic Microbiology... so far I really like the class (I probably won't like it after the test this coming Monday). I have been learning a lot of interesting stuff. Patho is just one of those classes that everyone talks about being a face melter. A vast majority of the people in the class are taking it for a second and some even a third time. Hopefully I will just have to pass through the class once.

The lab that accompanies the lecture is probably one of the most brutal labs I have ever had. Now don't get me wrong... I like it a lot... it is just extremely demanding. Safety is a number one priority and there is no room for mistakes. The lab instructors stress this point a lot. Then again it is in everyone's interest that they are safe when handling the bacteria. Some of the organisms we handle in lab are not very nice (Neisseria gonorrhoeae). Overall, I find the lab to be enjoyable.

Mammology is a pretty fun class. I really like the mammal of the day thing he has on his powerpoints. The red panda was the first mammal of the day when the class started =D.

Biochemistry is not so fun. It combines something I love with something I hate to achieve the overall product of 'meh'. It probably doesn't help matters much that our teacher was found on the spur on the moment.

Bio-inspired Design Concepts sounded really cool when I signed up for it. I am not too sure how cool it is going to be. I know for a fact that is going to require quite a bit of effort because we are bascially doing research of our choosing. I think the class probably should have mentioned that you were going to be doing undergrad research (and possibly getting published). We had our third group meeting with our teacher tonight. She proposed some topics that we would find interesting and at the same time complment the research she was doing. We will be doing research on the iridoviruses (family Iridoviridae). Specifically we will probably be focusing on the structural color aspect of them. I'm guessing it will go somthing along the lines of how they viruses impart structural color to the cells the infect.
