I'm so thrilled! Guess what, nah go on, guess! Yeah all right, I'll tell ya: I got a new computer!! I am, as I type, sitting on the couch in the book room, using my new MacBook Pro! I am so loving it! No more fighting over the iMac with Adam! Well, we never fought over it - we had to share, it was unavoidable - but we had spats sometimes. And I think it's fair to say that I was the one who usually gave in and bowed out. Hence my piss-poor online presence :D
I was just going to get a MacBook, the cheapest one, but when we went to the Apple store in the Eaton Centre it turned out that I get a discount because I'm a teacher. It was a $50 discount on the MacBook but $100 on the MacBook Pro, and it would have cost $100 to upgrade the MacBook's processing power from 2 to 4 gigs, while the MacBook Pro is 4 gigs (in contrast, our iMac is only 2, which was the highest it could go at the time we bought it back in 2006 - wow, is it really that long ago? It's still going strong :) ). Then, to add cream to the pie, the Educator's discount also came with a free iPod Touch!! God I love being a teacher!!
I have never been remotely close to acquiring any kind of MP3 player, it's never even been on the list, but I've always wanted one. It's $219, and I did pay for it, but then I mailed in this form for a rebate and my receipt and a couple of other things and they'll give me my money back. (These kind of things make me a bit nervous but it's Mac and a King St address and they've been doing this since May... yeah it's not hard to talk yourself into it.)
I can't use the earbuds though. Earbuds never stay in my ears, they just fall right out. I guess I have the "wrong" shaped ears for them. I still have, somewhere, the little earphones I bought in Japan that clip on the back of your ear. They're pretty good, and I should think they'd work on this gadget.
That was on Friday, after work. We stopped in at Best Buy first to look into routers, as you recommended to me when I asked about it (thanks again!). Adam was never going to agree to a wireless router, but the wired router works fine, only gets slow when one of us is downloading something a bit hefty. We do have cables going everywhere at the mo, which I was hoping to avoid, but one of the jobs for today is to pin the one for the iMac to the wall.
So yesterday, Saturday, we took our planned trek into town to do wedding stuff. First off: wedding rings! We have officially bought rings, they're being made up, and will be ready to collect in a week or two. They're simple rounded plain white gold bands, and I love them.
The other wedding chore was to head on up to a Scottish shop at Lawrence Ave W and Avenue Rd to get Adam a belt, sporran and whatever else he needs, accoutrements-wise. Yes, he's still getting married in a kilt. In fact, he tried one on there - they were exceedingly helpful, knowledgeable and measured him up properly, which showed us that we'd taken the wrong measurements when we did it! Anyway, he looked stunning in the kilt. Absolutely awesome, and very yummy!! What's more, he loved wearing it. It was a humid day, I'm stewing in my own sweat, and he's talking about how cool he is in this kilt - I was so jealous! Especially watching the guy, Peter, stroll around in his own kilt, looking very refreshed. So Adam's really excited about getting a kilt and wearing it at the wedding, and plans to wear it often afterwards (I had to make him promise not to wear it before the wedding, because it needs to be a surprise and have that WOW factor, y'know?).
We ordered a sporran - they make them in Nova Scotia - and bought a belt and buckle - the buckle has the Scottish lion on it which I discovered is the same lion used on the Tasmanian flag! I hadn't known that before. We examined the three different versions of the Elliot tartan and we're definitely going with the "ancient", which has a softer blue. We got an Elliot pin that goes on the front and bottom of the kilt - Elliot is his maternal grandmother's line; his maternal grandfather, the one who died last year, is also of Scottish descent but the Elliot tartan is just so much lovelier!
So all up it's been quite fun, we've done a couple of things on our wedding to-do list, we have a second computer and boy is the keyboard so much nicer than the iMac's!! (that's the one thing I really dislike about that computer) Now then, I have some reviews to write... oh and some virtual friends to visit!
