This is what my days look like:
Monday-Friday: Wake up at 6 a.m. (crawl out of bed sometime later), feed cats, run around frantically in order to leave shortly after 7 to catch the subway and get to work on time. Work from 8 - 4 or, if I take a shorter lunch, 3:45 which is much nicer. We (me and Adam) are currently doing the work of 6 or so people, with files coming out of our ears, ever since the summer students left. Work consists, at this temp job, of moving files around, trying to find files, calling colleges for new start dates (thankfully don't have to do that any more!), shelving files, data entry, making files, opening mail and creating files, getting monster papercuts, fighting with the database, and spending an hour on the phone with the IT guy trying to get said database to work properly. And who said the government doesn't have high-tech?
I also take breaks by checking out my LJ and GR and, through Hotmail, the messages left by my family on Facebook (gov't has blocked Facebook and YouTube because civil servants were spending too much time on them - yes, too much. Everyone who works for gov't spends a portion of their day on the internet, and it's understandable. You'd go out of your mind otherwise.). So I can read them and laugh but I can't reply. And I still don't know the name of my brother's new girlfriend!!
Monday and Thursday evening: are gym days, though they get moved around sometimes. Then I get home closer to 6p.m.
Weekday evenings: sometimes pop into the supermarket (or bottle shop!) on the way home - on Wednesdays (pay day) I duck into Chapters too, to "browse" the books ... and walk out with a few. Then a 15 min. walk home, feed cats and make tea - or if I'm at the gym, Adam makes it, or we make it together. We eat quite early. Then I park me arse on the couch and read, sometimes with the telly on, before bed around 10 or so. Friday we might rent a movie, though there's not much I care for so I usually end up reading through it.
Weekends: are filled with unfulfilled promises. I always have to vacuum all the cat hair up, which takes a while. I catch up on my book reviews (after sitting in front of a computer all day the last thing I want to do when I get home is more stuff on the computer!) and try to get out for a walk, maybe take the camera and put some shots up on my
Flickr. Mostly I do bugger-all, because I can. But hours are wasted doing chores and running errands.
That pretty much covers it. My mind and body are in "endure" mode these days. It would be easier if we were paid better. This weekend I absolutely have to get new shoes, and I'm really not looking forward to it. But I might take the time to go see Harry Potter as well, and on Saturday afternoon we're going to a friend's place for a games night! Yay for nerdy fun! (and a change in schedule!)
