something to be said for a day job

Jul 19, 2009 12:27

Finished my 100th book of the year the other day, A Disobedient Girl. You'd think that with so much time on my hands lately, what with being unemployed, I'd be able to read so much more. But I bloody hate not working, and sitting down with a book makes me feel so guilty I can barely concentrate ( Read more... )

It sucks, doesn't it, the unemployment guilt. You're pretty sure it will be okay, but you just don't know. And then, when you do get that job you look back and go, 'why didn't I value that time off!'...

I LOVE that you say you don't read as much as you used to while reading as much as you do! I wish I could read as much as you do now...

MILs.... I hear ya! (Grrrrr).

*Cheats and jumps on sister's comment to say "ditto".*
...Except the MIL bit. I mean, I hear ya, but can't empathise. I've got one crazy mother. I don't need two ;)

Thanks youse *hugs*

(I think I've been spoiled by having such a great non-crazy mother; I never expected to be one of those women who don't get along with their mother-in-law, really I didn't. Mostly it means that in private, Adam and I vent for hours. HOURS! Not so healthy...)

The thing with your own mother is you understand her type of crazy and you know when to ignore her.

MILs, eh. You either are not good enough for her little boy, or do everything the wrong way, or don't even compare to her own daughter, etc etc etc. She has to love her son, she doesn't have to love you (or at least that is how it feels).

At least ranting makes you feel a bit better!

I dunno - I know that's usual, but that's not quite the situation with us. She'd like nothing more than to take me under her wing; she never had a daughter and always wanted one. But we're two very different people, so. More than that, she drives Adam insane and upsets him, and that in particular makes me see red. Everyone's very nice to each other, of course, but I'm used to being treated, well, like an adult. It's a long story :)
