back to auri -- I used sweet potato instead of carrots, just based on what we had on hand. also precooked some onions w/the sausage, some just went in the slowcooker diced small. beer instead of water in the cooker, rice was cooked in mightybroth (world's greatest (roasted) vegetable broth, per allrecipes.com).
The sausage was a little dry, but it's from a friend of my mom's and it always runs a little lean. 1 granny smith apple, 2 sweet potatoes. my definition of "raisin" is "zante currant" (smaller raisin type thingies). It was more like 1.5 lbs of sausage, 4 cups basmati rice, but the spices were the same, just not smoothed off to be level. no parsley. more like 3/4 cup to 1 cup of the beer in the slowcooker (left from cooking the sausage & onions).
simple. happy. yay!
