Caleb stared out the window of Blake's apartment, counting the seconds between lightning and thunder, closing his eyes when the sound finally growled across the sky. He could practically taste the rain that was coming, and if Blake let him, he'd be sitting outside on the fire escape, waiting for it. But Blake had caught him not long ago, one leg already out the window, and given him a look that told Caleb he wouldn't be allowed back inside until the storm was long over and he'd dried off completely.

Thunder growled again and Caleb sighed. He loved it. Completely loved it. The electricity in the air, the heavy presence of impending rain, the streaks of lightning tearing into the sky. Storms made him feel alive in the way drugs never could, the way he wished he could feel without them, so he'd never have to see the expression Blake got when Caleb showed up at his apartment drunk or high.

"Alright, mei mei?" Blake asked quietly, sitting on the arm of Caleb's chair and handing him a mug of hot chocolate. Caleb nodded, carefully cradling his drink as he leaned against Blake's leg.

"M'fine, ge ge. Waiting for the rain."

Blake squinted out the window. "Soon," he decided after a moment, lifting a hand to stroke Caleb's hair. Caleb nodded and took a sip from his mug. "...Topher's singing tonight. Do you want to come?"

Normally Caleb would have jumped at the chance to go out with Blake and his somewhat-boyfriend, to get a couple of drinks and hang out, but tonight was special. First thunderstorm of the new year. "Can't," he said simply.

"Right, storm." Blake tried to understand his cousin's obsession with the weather, and he managed, for the most part, but he still didn't completely get it. Mostly because it was difficult for Caleb to explain himself. "Well, I'll have my cell if you need me. Don't hesitate to call, I mean it. You need me, I'll be home in an instant."

"I know," Caleb replied calmly, "and I'll be fine. Fucking go or you'll be late."

Blake smirked, kissing the top of Caleb's head as he stood. "Fine. Love you, mei mei."

"Love you, ge ge."

Caleb settled in with his hot chocolate as Blake left the apartment and the first angry splatters of rain hit the window. This was going to be one hell of a storm.
