You knew I was gonna do it

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In April I helped
neveselocin  across the street (6 points). Last Wednesday I set
purplerebecca 's puppy on fire (-66 points). In August I donated bone marrow to
fenikkusuken  in a life-saving procedure (300 points). In October I helped
heather_madd  see the light (8 points). Last Thursday I caught a purse-snatcher who stole
nokomarie 's purse (30 points).

Overall, I've been nice (278 points). For Christmas I deserve a Pony Slaystation 3!

Sincerely,
inufan625

Can I just say I really want a Pony Slaystation 3, but I won't be getting it for Christmas. I'll be getting it for Happy Tax Return came in the mail day instead.

Anyway I have a semi-related question for everyone. What age is a good age for kids to find out/be told about Santa?
My barely six year old came home from school (Kinder) and asked me if Santa was real, telling me that kids in her class said he wasn't. I said he was, since I believe in Santa until I was like 8 and because I don't particularly appreciate having that particular innocence taken from her just yet.

Seriously, it's like it has become a crime to let kids believe in the unbelievable, and personally I find that really sad. No one ever got hurt from believing in things like goodness and hope and magic not when it stems from a place of love and joy and giving.

Then again maybe I'm weird, or just a sap, but I don't think so.

Christmas might be commercialized and  I know there are plenty of Christmas horror stories, but there are also plenty of wonder, miraculous ones, too. Christmas is still Christmas and is what we make of it. For us it's a time of family. Yes, there are presents - probably even what many would call an excess, but that's not all it is. It's a season that inspires me to find ways to do more good and to want to instill that kind of charity and compassion in my own children.

I want my kids to believe that the world is still a good place, a hopeful one, and to know that while there are bad people, there are also good ones too - like I do. That they shouldn't be afraid. And that prudence and caution aren't the same thing as fear.  That the world is what they make of it and that they should try to make it a good one.

Again maybe I'm naive, but I don't think so.

Damn, that got way more serious than I intended. Oh well.
