my blueberry nights

saw the new wong kar wai movie saturday night. not entirely sure what i think of it, i am definitely going to have to see it again. he is definitely one of my favorite directors, if not my favorite, so i guess i kind of had high expectations going into it. as a movie, it was definitely WKW-esque. with the grainy quality his other films have and plenty of those achingly slowed, silent transitions. super saturated colors and well-chosen soul and pop songs from the 50's and 60's. sprawling dialogue and world-weary characters. but yet, it seemed almost... conventional? i don't know. it's ending its run at canal place this thursday so i am going to try to see it either that day or the day before. if anyone is down for joining me, get in touch.

in other news, netflix has about a hundred PBS specials available for instant watching on their website and i am going to watch every single one of them. i do not know what it is about the corporation for public broadcasting or the documentary as a genre but if a film exists that is about a factual topic, i WILL watch it. legendary lighthouses? sure! shark mountain? oh hell yes! hunt for the super twister? BRING IT ON.
