Disclaimer: I neither hate nor like Orihime. I have nothing especially against her. Sometimes I feel sorry for her, but I'm indifferent at best, and anyway this is ONLY MY OPINION. I'm perfectly aware that I may be completely wrong, but this is the way I interpreted the manga.

I agree with you except that I do think it's fair to compare her to other characters. Ichigo and Chad were just as young and inexperienced as her, but they stepped up to the plate on more than one occasion. Orihime did too, when she saved Tatsuki and her brother, but not Ichigo. I do agree that Kubo lost us when it comes to her development. The best opportunity was after the Lust Arc and he missed it. I don't know what he is thinking. It's like he enjoys portraying her as Ichigo's doormat and nothing more. It's a waste in a shounen series.
