Christina Grey is being interviewed by Angus Steele about her newly founded software solutions company that has just won an award for innovative technology. Angus is a twenty-three years old student journalist, who works on an E-Magazine and a blog criticizing contemporary literature in his free-time.

The prologue is one of Angus’ blog posts saying that he has managed to get an appointment for an interview.

The first chapter starts with the interview. Christina meets Angus in her hotel room, and she seems to be a very easy-going, relaxed and down-to-earth person. She would be thirty-three in a few weeks, and she tells him that she had decided on starting an internship program for young women who are struggling with financial problems. The interview takes a grim turn when Angus brings up male chauvinism and sexual harassment in the work-place, and Christina admits to facing her share, so much so that she’d almost broken down and convinced herself to leave her job before she got laid off during the time of recession. The idea for this company came up when she was having coffee with a colleague, a woman struggling with being an unemployed single-mother in an economy that is about to go down.

Angus notices that Christina had liked the Facebook page of his blog. He thanks her back, but doesn’t think anything more of it. She eventually becomes an almost regular commenter on the blog.

They meet again when Angus is working as a part-time server in a high-profile party that Christina is attending. They have some small-talk, where Christina compliments Angus on his blog and tells him that she finds it an interesting read during her own free-time. She thanks him for introducing her to a blog like that. Things go slightly further and Angus and Christina end up adding each other on their private Facebook accounts.

After some casual chatting, Angus develops a crush on Christina. This is when he breaks up with his on-and-off boyfriend of one and half years. While on a chat with Christina about classic science fiction, Angus breaks down and tells her that he’s having a hard time coping with his break-up. She is a little surprised, and then tells him about some of her own not-so-lucky relationships. They both realize that they have been in quite a few emotionally manipulative relationships.

After a few more days, Christina invites him out on coffee when she is in town for work. They hang out; have a strong connection, one thing leads to other and they end up making out on Christina’s car. This freak both of them out for a while and their conversations grow more guarded and formal, and Angus ends up apologizing profusely on the phone. Christina is silent for a while, and then admits that she has never met someone she felt so normal with and they decide on a second date.

Soon, they’re in a long-distance relationship with Christina coming to meet Angus every other weekend. One day, after a wild session of sex, she tells him that she’s secretly into D/s and has an active profile on Fetlife. Angus, after a few bad jokes, is intrigued about the whole situation, and Christina starts by slowly introducing him to BDSM concepts and taking him out to regular meets. When Angus feels he’s ready, they decide on some light bondage and sensation play to try it out. The first session is incredibly awkward as Christina is extremely nervous, and Angus can't help but burst out laughing every so often.

Their second try is rather good, and Christina discovers that Angus has a thing for pegging. It’s then Christina decides to go for a Promise-Collar.

Soon, Christina tells him about her teenage when she had struggled with RAD and low self-esteem after being adopted and had been promiscuous as a means of gaining attention to validate herself. The father of one of her friends had not hesitated to take advantage of her promiscuity and she was left emotionally and sexually scarred, confused, depressed and aimless. It was the support of her family and her therapist that helped her get over it, and she’d been very cautious about men since then - especially older men. She still struggled with her sexuality after being called slurs like ‘slut’ and ‘whore’ after her traumatic experience and only felt safe engaging in anonymous cyber sex.

She also confesses about some flashes of memory she still retained about her past life. Her birth-mother had been a victim of sex-trafficking and died while being abused by her pimp and addicted to narcotics. She wanted to go back in the past and feel what was it that she had lost, and the difference between the privilege she’d had growing up and her birth-mother didn’t. It’s an extremely emotional journey for both her and Angus as they find her mother’s identity and Christina believes that the experience would help her make peace with her past.

Epilogue : Angus proposes to Christina after an evening of eating ice-cream and watching bad horror movies on the couch of his one-roomed apartment.
