I think I need a new car. What kind should I buy?
I love my Passat, but it's beginning to show its years and mileage, and the maintenance costs are rising. For the amount of money I've spent on this car over the last six months, I could have made the payments on a brand new car instead. Plus, with a new car there would have been a lot less hassle-- I wouldn't have found myself stranded in rural Missouri on Easter Sunday, and I wouldn't have stalled out in the middle of traffic when I went to lunch today.
Now I'm starting the search for a replacement, and I'd like some suggestions from you, the Vast Unpaid Research Department (TM

I have only a few real "requirements." It has to be reliable, fit at least 4 normal-size human adults, and get reasonably good gas mileage. The rest is pretty subjective and vague, which is why I want to look at a lot of different options before I decide on anything.
So let's have some suggestions. If you were about to buy a new car, what would you get?
