Hahaha, testing time for class of 2008. I pity you; you guys will have to make an "e-Portfolio" in order to graduate too, haha. Though I suppose that means you'll know more about portfolios than I by the end of it. Not that it will help you at ALL if you decide to "rest a year" after senior year, Derek, omg, やらないでよ。
That said, my day was okay. Lots of work, but I'm staying afloat. I'm thinking of going to either University of WA, Western WA U, or Eastern WA U. The first because of the sheer volume of classes that it has, which I can choose from (including a technical Japanese class - goodness, how fun is that?); the second because it's in a nice area, and because they have an "Introduction to Game Design" class; and the third because apparently it has the best computer science program in the state. The problem is, I'm really rather sick of computer science right now. And I haven't even played video games in, like, forever. Do I even like them anymore? Do I want to participate in the creation of something that, whole so widely adored, is also so widely abhorred; something that parents see children doing and think to themselves, "Oh God look at that poor brainwashed neglected lazy child being TRAINED TO KILL, they should be doing something MORE PRODUCTIVE with their lives."
But at the same time, good grief, if I become a doctor - to what avail is that? To heal a human, or to not heal, as it were - either way it leaves indeliable marks, yes, but how many people say, "God I hate the hospital I hate the doctors," and how many people really carry on an everlasting gratitude for the doctors that saved them? Perhaps they always have gratitude, true; but in the end, people will live their own lives, and the pursuit of their own happinesses will eventually cause an internal dismissal, a moving on. And yes, technology is just as transient, but if I have a chance to impact people's lives in this world, I want it to be through something that people would really find enjoyable, that might change someone and entrance them away from their troubles for just a while, so that they might say with fond voices a decade later, "Man" - or whatever meaningless interjection is popular at that time - "Man, I remember that game, I played that when I was little, I love it, do you know where I could get it again..."
...yeah...I don't know.
Creative Writing was fun today, we ended up - on Ryan's suggestion, of course - drawing clothing and talking about the various current /hideous/tasteful fashions. Both Ryan and Cate don't really like it when people put layer upon layer of clothing on, but the one girl they pointed out - "the one that looks like she woke up in a garbage can and just decided to prance into a photo shoot" - I thought that one had interesting stuff on. I didn't hate it, anyway. What an untrained eye have I.
I was talking with Kiori last night, in a dream. We were talking and she was saying, "Oh yes yes love, I love love, the motion the warmth the glory the back massages the high!" And I was saying, "Good grief Kio, but you know the symptoms for love, they're the same as the symptoms for obsessive compulsive disorder," thank you, National Geographic February 2006, "the brain's low serotonin levels and high cortisol levels and hyperactivity and loss of sleep and just, everything, all that stuff," and she sort of grinned at me and said, "I don't advocate the use of antilovants, it's against my life philosophy," and she raised this really big scythe-thing and just killed me, and I was ressurected as a cat - neither yellowy nor jaguar-spotted or even calico, but just the shiny gray with jade eyes, the same I always am when I'm a cat. And I walked to a certain person's house and spent the rest of my days haunting him and his bed. And it felt so nice, to just curl up on someone's stomach, oh the warmth.
