Successful Navigation of the Non-Navigable River

On June 4, 2008, the Army Corps of Engineers declared the Los Angeles River not to be a traditional, navigable river. This meant its tributaries would no longer be protected under the Clean Water Act. The River's friends challenged this declaration by planning a three day voyage down the river by kayak and canoe. This is not the first time it's happened. George Calvarescu claims to commute down to Long Beach on a regular basis. The fact that he claims to have lost 100 pounds while doing it makes me skeptical. Was he also eating Subway sandwiches?
