Reflections on Callie - part 4 of 4?

Aug 12, 2010 03:44

It occurred to me today that my previous post ended on a note that may have seemed somewhat final... and so I should clarify.

Callie is both fine and not-fine. She is fine in the sense that she is rallying with medication, gaining weight and sass, and likely to stay around for a while. I will be discussing chemotherapy drugs with the doctor tomorrow, and Callie is likely to stick around as long as we keep a close eye on her. With a little luck, she could be around to see me graduate.

Callie is not-fine in the sense that, well, she is fourteen and has small-cell lymphoma. Most of my cats are wonderfully low-maintenance; Callie has gone from being one of the "some maintenance" cats to being decidedly high-maintenance, and any lapse in that maintenance could be catastrophic.

For now, the crisis is averted... the cat remains, and we are grateful.

On the way home from the specialist I was in a strange and exuberant mood. I brought Callie on to my law school campus to show her where I go to school. (The campus is on the way home from the specialist.) I had a stranger take our picture - the exposure is somewhat wonky, but I have given it to the best photoshopper I know and if the retouch goes well I will post it here in a reply.

It's going to be okay, even as it is not. And it was ever thus.
