Those Wild Cards

I have to admit, I gave up on them. And as the daughter of a die-hard Cubs, my dad wouldn't exactly be proud of that fact. But to be honest, the Cardinals were 10 1/2 games back of the Braves in the wild card race on August 25th. No one really expected them to do much, especially with all of the injuries they faced this year and with their best hitter in a slump. But we were all wrong. They somehow pulled together and managed to go 23-9 after that while the Braves self-imploded at that same time.

So last night, if the Cardinals managed to win against Houston, they were guaranteed a one game playoff for the wild card spot. They did their part, but they wont need the one game playoff. The Braves once again fell apart, this time letting go of a 3-2 lead in the 9th and loosing to the Phillies 4-3 in the 13th inning. Now the Cardinals will face those same Phillies in the Division Series starting this series. See, this is one of the reasons I love October.
