Brief update summarizing the past year: Internship Accomplished and Done, 1206 total hours (average 28 hours per week at site plus 2 hours Practicum Seminar, total 30 hours per week, 40 weeks, 10 months, in 4 days per week Monday-Thursday). According to the School, supposed to be 700 hours and more like 18-22 hours per week total and 3 days per week, but hey, it was not a Toy Internship, it was a REAL JOB the way that Site did it, and there were people to see and paperwork to fill out! (Forms and related work averaged about 100 hours per Client, literally.) And all for free, plus HAVING TO PAY what was it, $5000 for Seminar or something like that? Argh...
So there hasn't been time to turn around, much less get on here - LJ - from the day after Labor Day 2006 until the end of June 2007. Still strange to not be rushing off to the train at 7:30 a.m. four mornings per week and getting no lunch break whatsoever (had to nab 'em after Group let out at noon, to get any Individual Hours, but so it goes). Trying to get out before 6 p.m. (Some days in Second Semester were close on to 10 hours and weekly hours were 38 or 39 M-Th for heaven's sake!).
Interns = Free Labor, we all know that, it goes with the territory. Furniture/office contents need moving? Cleanup needed after Big Pharma reps do lunch-n-learns for Fulltime Paid Staff? Endless searching for paper charts in the "Happy Hunting Grounds" AKA "The Chart Room." It's an Intern's Lot in Life. But it makes for a real job experience without a doubt.
