I want to play around with craft foam and a heat gun, see what I can do with it. I've never really experimented with much of anything beyond fabric and poster paper for my costumes and crafts. Time to branch out a little, see what I can do. I found a tutorial on pinterest (or should I say it found me since it just popped up in my email inbox) for making a craft foam corset and my interest was definitely piqued.
I'm wearing my old Chiana Quixote costume for Halloween - I can just barely still squeeze into the leggings and everything else still mostly fits as well. And the boots haven't disintegrated yet, although they may not be the most comfortable things to wear. These are some nearly thigh-high orange-brown pleather things that I made from scratch because there was no way I could afford to buy such a thing even if I could ever find it for sale anywhere, way back when I had utmost confidence in my ability to make anything I needed, but no actual experience or skill at making anything. So I just threw a bunch of stuff together and called them boots.
What I haven't decided yet (and it's still very early days, but I'd like to get a jump start) is what costumes to work on for Dragon Con next year. I want to do something from Once Upon a Time, but haven't nailed down what. I want to see if I can do something with Simon's Cat. I might not do a new Doctor Who but just recycle one or two of my old costumes (if I lose enough weight to fit any of them which is not guaranteed). So I don't have a specific costume in mind that requires molded craft foam, but I want to experiment/practice a bit and see if I can get good enough at making things look the way I want the to look, to actually use it as a costume element.
