ani_no_mouse and I have been planning a day hike for months and today was the day for it. The weather was ominously promising rain but we were not daunted. ANM drove down from Grove City, picked me up, and we continued on down to Ohiopyle. Because we were expecting rain I didn't take my sunglasses, and regretted it the whole way down because there was a lot more sun than cloud.
Our trail head was in a picnic area and it was lunch time, so we had a bit to eat to start. Then we got on the trail.
Great Gorge Trail
The trail leads to a stream and the spot where a bridge once crossed the stream, many long moons ago. For us, it was shoes off, trousers rolled up, and across we went.
A look back from the other side.

A sweet little flower, of unknown variety
The trail was not spectacularly well maintained, with a couple big tree trunks across the path. This one was pretty marvelous and not actually blocking our way.
Not sure what kind of petal this is but they were all over the trail, especially at the far end, so I'm assuming it came from a tree. Very pretty, whatever it is.
Along with not being super well maintained (although still very walkable), the trail was not terribly well marked. Which fork to take? For this 'Choose Your Own Adventure' we took the high road.
The beginning/end of the trail was little more than a deer path, which made the hike feel all the more like a little adventure.
Once back home (with a bit of very heavy rain right as we neared Pittsburgh) I put on the last fifteen minutes of the Pens game - a 7-0 blow out in favor of the Penguins. After that I started dinner, did three loads of laundry (which I should fold some day that is not today) and steadfastly refused to do anything off the to-do list I brought home with me from work. Plenty of time for all that tomorrow.
