If I were cool I would do what everybody does on Pinterest and FB and make cardboard letters that he could then artfully pose next to, but I can't find the cardboard let alone actually take the pic so there ya go. Hello camera phone, old friend.

But that is not the old friend I am talking about. Ben, one of Mat's besties (Mat does not use this word) from growing up and his wife, Emily, who was also a friend growing up, have visited us twice now (once on the way to their home town and once on the way back). It was so great to see them. It's been about five years, and the time before that was five years, and now we have three kids and they have five and we're all old and crazy from so many kids yet the time just melted away. We could talk and have fun and remember times--old and new--and even our kids had a good time. Our two oldest sons (Jack is nine and Gabe is seven) had a particularly good time together, as I knew they would. They're kind of kindred spirits like their fathers.

The friends were married about two weeks after us, which was fun, and in our previous visits we have had fun times and done fun things and now we're just hoping that it won't be another five years until we see them again. We took pics of us and the kids and it will be fun to look back and see what everybody looked like. It's weird to think how big the kids will be and hopefully we'll look back and be impressed how well we've aged. Late thirties is still young, right?
