Guys? Have you heard about
this?? For those not in the know, apparently, LJ is at it again. And this time, not only are they NOT using lube, they apparently haven't really felt any need to call our attention to it at all.
No more paid accounts??? No more customized journals, no more extra icons, no more... perks.
You know, I've been on Livejournal since September 2005. I've made a lot of friends here, and some of them have become RL friends. I've grown as a writer here, and I've found a sort of home here. It really chaps my hide to think that my opinion, and the opinion of a majority of users who have been here since WAY longer than I have, means less than nothing to these people.
So... I will begin posting primarily to Dreamwidth from now on, and will start moving what little content hasn't over there as well. I don't want to lose the amazing people I've met here, so... if you haven't friended me over there yet, please do! Same name as here, my dears.
I suppose all good things must come to an end. But really... like this??
And to Anton Nossik, advisor to SUP Media (LJ's owner), who in 2008 accused LJ users of "trying to scare and blackmail us, threatening to destroy our business," and says of us that, "their goal is to criticize, destabilize, and ruin our reputation..." I have to ask, what reputation is there to ruin, exactly? Seriously, dude, LJ's "reputation" with us isn't the best. It's pretty much sucked since the Strikethrough in 2007. We've put up with it, because of the communities we built here. But really... how can we ruin a reputation that's been in tatters for pretty much the last five years? How can we ruin the reputation of LJ when it's allowed random Russian spammers through, when it's shut down the journals of Russian dissidents, or any of the myriad other things that have made all of us grind our teeth in frustration? Dude, WE didn't ruin your reputation. YOU did.
Fine. You want an easily controlled, bland, journaling service that you can easily police and shut down users who don't agree with your government? Fine. You can have it. I'll just take my money and my paid account and go play elsewhere.
