And a good time was had by all...

Oh, boy, was yesterday a long day!!

The Impossible Son had a soccer game at 9, and we had to be at the fields way early. It was 41 F outside (5 C for all y'all across the Pond), and Auntie was experiencing Personal Winter, so... it was FREEZING!!! But the Impossible Son shares a wonderful Internal Heater with his grandmother (she could walk out in a blizzard just wearing a cashmere cardigan and say, "I thought it was supposed to be cold out here?"), so he hardly noticed his mama shivering. And as you can see, the cold affected him not...

They won, 2 to 1, and apparently, the other team only managed to score on a penalty kick. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Husbandly One's team goes to tournament next week!

Then we rushed home, to finish up working on the kids' costumes for Halloween later that night, and scarfed down some lunch. Got Miss Priss togged out in her soccer gear, then headed out to meet up with the rest of the team for the trip to Hallettsville and the game at 3 p.m. Which turned out much better than last week's 13 to 0 massacre. Yeah, I know I didn't post about that one. I was too angry. Our U14 team, which is made up of 11 to 13 year-olds, was basically playing against a high school freshman team. Of course they got slaughtered!

*sigh*

Anyhow, I didn't get very many good pictures of the daughter, mainly because my zoom lens is broken... *sob*... and I was having difficulty with the focus on my regular lens. But here is a funny one, where the Impertinent Daughter is apparently using her Jedi mind-tricks to head the ball...

Very... graceful... isn't she?

*laughs*

It was an exhausting game, but they tied it 2-2 with a penalty kick in the last five minutes of the game. Our goalie was AWESOME yesterday, with a couple of breath-taking saves that I hope like heck the Tall Blonde got with her camera, because, seriously, they deserved to be immortalized!!

After the game was over, we rushed back home to get the kids ready for trick or treating. The Impertinent Daughter dressed up as a Vampirate (she's been reading the books, so she's all ramped up about it) in clothes we found at the thrift store. The Impossible Son was a Killer-Psycho-Soccer-Player-Zombie, and he made his costume himself out of old clothes.

A friend of Miss Priss' joined us, dressed as a Zombie, and here's the photo evidence...

Here's the necklace the Impertinent Daughter is wearing. It's an Emergency Blood Supply amulet, and I found the pattern on Margot Potter's website HERE. I used an old vanilla bottle, a cork from my craft drawer, and some cheap chains I bought at WalMart. Would have aged the chains if I had had time, but it worked out and she was happy with it, and that's what counts.

I used "Zapfino" font and printed up the label, then aged it with watercolor pencils, gouache, acrylic paints, and glue. Turned out rather well, don't you think? Oh, and that's fake theatrical blood in the bottle, which looked creepily real!

And one more photo, my kids and their friend hamming it up for the camera...

Oh, and if you're wondering about the Asian inspired coins, I figured a world-traveling Vampirate would have such coins in their pocket. If I'd had time, I might have thrown in any other old coins I could find, but these were all I had on hand in my craft box.

Anyhow, a good time was had by all, and though we were disappointed in our yearly ritual of trick-or-treating, and then going out to eat dinner afterwards (for some reason, all the eateries in our town closed early... on a Saturday night, no less!), we were happy to come home and collapse in our various beds. I couldn't even muster up the energy to perform our usual Samhain ritual, and we completely forgot about the sunset ritual when we'd gotten home after the game, which makes us very bad Pagans. When I told the Husbandly One that, he smiled, shrugged, and said, "We'll do them on Sunday. The gods will understand. They're flexible."

True. Very true.

And now, I must gather together our things for the library!

impossible son, costumes, halloween, kids, fun stuff, soccer, crafty auntie, photos, impertinent daughter
