Here, if you don't show up to the polling booths, you get a fine. It's against the law to not present yourself for voting.

You can do whatever the damn hell you want with the ballot paper, but you must show up for every local, state and federal election.

I think it's a reasonably good system.

In this country every person is automatically included on the list of voters from the age of 18. All you have to do is show up at the ballot (?), which usually takes place in the sports hall of the nearest school.
