What aunt_zelda Thinks: Stoker (no spoilers)

Just watched Stoker.
I ... I ... um ... I ...

It was ... not what I expected, exactly? But ... it was beautiful and terrifying and terrifyingly beautiful? Brilliantly cast, I can't imagine anyone else in those main three roles. All the ... the visuals ... the repeating visual cues and ... it was so skillfully constructed ... I'm trying to think, I don't remember the last movie I saw that was this meticulously constructed. (It reminded me of Moonrise Kingdom for some bizarre reason and I don't know why because the two films are completely different.)

I'm also kind of scared and horrified? But I think that was the point? And I find it oddly ... well, the fact that it was all about the female main character and her quiet but very active story ... I really liked that? She wasn't this helpless submissive girl, she had agency in her own story. That is so rare.

Also, many many MANY things made me think of the tv show Hannibal. Not the least of which was the pale girl with long dark hair whose dad taught her to hunt. Wow.
