Murder Ballads

If Murder Ballads was anthropomorphic I would never stop hugging them.
Granted, Murder Ballads personified would probably be like a strange cross between ATG, Bennet the Sage, and ... I don't even know. Someone creepy and very musically talented and soothing and funny and Crosses the Line Twice.

So yeah, I downloaded the full CD from amazon.com ( Read more... )

voltaire, tgwtg, music, today, nick cave and the bad seeds

The video for "Bring it On" was awesome. It's a song about a garden and love … with sexy dancers shaking their asses at the camera! Gotta love satire like that.

You know what I'm realizing as I watch these videos? The camera doesn't just focus on Nick Cave, it checks in on the rest of the band too. That isn't seen in modern music videos much, which is wrong.

And just as a note outside wackiness or slashiness... I think the video for "Henry Lee" is the sexiest thing I have ever seen. Not the sexiest music video. The sexiest film clip in any genre, EVER. It absolutely blows me away how jaw-droppingly sexy it is just watching Nick and PJ Harvey do nothing but LOOK at each other or put one hand on a shoulder or do a slow, simple dance... the way they lean in close and sing with lips ALMOST touching skin, a tilt of the head that accentuate the throat or a gesture that doesn't QUITE finish where it clearly wants to... This video is the most pornographic thing I've ever seen, and both people in it are fully clothed in identical black suits the entire time.
I saw that the other day and made an LJ post about it. Words really failed me. It was just so .. sensual? Intense? Intimate? It was amazing, whatever it was. They were just so perfectly attuned to each other, it was so powerful to see them interacting. All that scantily-clad writhing that 20-somethings do in current music videos can't even come within a hundred yards of "Henry Lee."

Today I danced crazy to "The Ballad of Robert Moore and Betty Coltrane." Like, I've never danced like that. I think I was doing a kind of weird shuffling spinny tap-dance thing in my sneakers. I probably looked completely insane, but I couldn't stop! I just HAD to dance around to it, and the shuffling got more and more insistent and then I was whirling around the room and flailing my arms and I freaking LOVE that song.
