Not much has been going on lately, but here's a brief run-down of last week:

We saw some new parts of San Francisco over the weekend, including Bernal Heights- a neighborhood with a beautiful gem of a hill. There, we were treated to a spectacular, highly-recommended cityscape view. Steve posted a few pictures on flickr, but it does it no justice.

The original reason we went to Bernal Heights was to look at a couch. It was a near-perfect condition, year old, Crate and Barrel queen sleeper sofa for $400 (they're about $1800 new). A half hour before we were supposed to pick it up, the guy called and said they decided not to sell. It was terribly disappointing, not to mention inconvenient. And so we continue to make use of a quilt-covered air mattress for both guest seating and tv viewing.

I started an internship at the Eviction Defense Collaborative this week. They do valuable work, and it feels good participating in it. The only downside is it's in a truly scummy area. Also, the evictions that the clients are dealing with seem to be a symptom of a larger problem. For most of them, it sounds like just another item in a lifetime of bad luck. It makes me feel both grateful and sad.

And because my post would not otherwise be complete, here's a meme:
Benefactor
You scored 71% Do Gooder, 45% Drive, and 75% Intellect!
Where have the Miss Havishams in the world gone to? You are a very
intelligent person who enjoys helping others, but you lack the drive to
get out there and do things yourself. You're like a benefactor who
stays in the background, smiling and giving away your money to charity,
which is very nice...but when it comes to doing things for yourself,
you're not so indulgent. You should get out in the real world more
often...I think you have a lot to offer and you should be reaping the
benefits sometimes, too.

All human being categories are: Lazy SOB, Rebel w/out a
