The Internets

Nov 17, 2006 10:14

A long time ago I came to the conclusion that public forums on the internet were not the place to expect intelligent conversation. So I gave up and just started to post comments that would incite a gut reaction from users. Most of the time the posts were ignored, as they should have been. Yesterday I posted a simple comment about a video posted on Youtube...

"Welcome to America, leave your freedom at the door"

The response back was like nothing I've ever experienced before online. Everything from people joking that they wanted the saying on a bumper sticker to questing my age and intelligence. Here's a few examples...

" unfortunately, we live in a world that absolute freedom and absolute security cannot be possibly co-exist.
"

"I'll take freedom over "security" any day then."

"Tell that to the people who would have been on the planes in the foiled plot to blow up 11+ planes over the atlantic ocean from england to the US with "liquid bombs". Freedom is not the ability to disobey the law and demean authority figures. If you think it is, go live in europe. Theyre looking for idiots like you before the whole continent imploads."

"Shut the hell up. All the idiot had to do was stand up.
Doh!"

Tuesday night a student was tasered in a UCLA library. If the story is correct he didn't have the correct access rights to be in the library after 11 at night and was asked to leave. At that point school security (police?) started to physically remove the student and at some point tasered him, over and over again. If you've ever been tasered or even had a bad shock before, it's hard to recover very quickly from it. There is no way the student would be able to hop back up and walk out after the first initial shock. So rather than drag the student out, they tasered him again.

With all the commotion being created by this, the other students in the library got up and requested that the security stop attacking the student. The security had only one response to the crowds pleas, keep out of this or you'll get tasered too.

Below is the video from the crowd of the event.

Here's a TV news report on it.

I've also included a link to the school newspaper about the incident.

If you're looking for a good laugh or just simply want to see people at their worst, check out the comments I received after my post about the video.
