~Chapter One~

Kyuhyun woke up on Monday and began putting on his new school uniform. He then headed to the kitchen to say goodbye to his sister. Ahra didn’t have classes until later, so she had made her brother a huge breakfast. “Hey kiddo.” She said, beaming at him. “Hey noona.” He replied, showing no emotion at all. He looked at the table and felt bad that he’d have to reject all the food she had made him. “I made you bre-“ Ahra started, but was cut off by her brother. “No thanks. I’m not hungry.” He stated, sounding grim. “But Kyuhyun, you haven’t eaten in that much since… well..” She pointed out. “Yeah.. I’m heading out for school. See you, noona.” Kyuhyun blew off the subject of last week. “Have a good day, brother! Call me if anything goes wrong!” He heard Ahra scream in the distance, being the caring sibling she was.

Seoul was a big city, but Kyuhyun knew he could improvise. He manuvered his way around the streets until he found his school. He stood outside of the gates for a minute, taking a deep breath before entering hell. He headed straight to the main office for his schedule, locker number, homeroom, ect. This was going to be a long day.

He entered the office and headed straight to the vacant desk. “Hello?” He yelled, but no one appeared. “You won’t get anywhere yelling. I’ve been sitting here for almost a half an hour.” He heard a small voice from behind him. The Korean was broken, and he could tell he had an accent. Kyuhyun turned around to see who the voice’s owner was. Slumped in a chair against the wall was a Chinese boy. He had bleach blonde hair and was extremely thin. “Well. I better not get into trouble for being late to class then.” Kyuhyun grumbled, walking over to sit beside the other boy. “My name is HanGeng, er-Hankyung. I’m from China.” The blonde introduced himself. Kyuhyun really wasn’t in the friend-making mood, but he saw no reason to immpolite. “That’s cool. My name’s Cho Kyuhyun. I’m just a new student.” HanGeng nodded slightly. They talked a little longer to pass the time until a small lady with her hair in a bun and tiny glasses perched on her nose ran through the door of the office. “I apologize! I’m sorry! Forgive me!” She panted and took her seat, motioning both of the boys to come forth. “Okay, HanGeng… here is everything you’ll need…” She handed the blonde a folder of papers. He thanked her and then turned to Kyuhyun. “I guess I’ll see you around?” He almost asked. Kyuhyun nodded and turned back to the lady. “Cho Kyuhyun, right?” She asked, to which Kyuhyun confirmed. “Alright. Here you go.” He took the papers and headed to his locker.

He had no trouble finding his locker, or his classes. This school wasn’t all too different from his last high school. His first class was Mathematics. He was a few minutes late, considering the delay in the office. Everyone turned and stared at him as soon as the door opened. “And so then you take two… Yes?” The teacher interrupted himself from his lesson and turned to Kyuhyun. “I apologize, there was no one in the office and I’m new and…” Kyuhyun rambled off, feeling all the eyes on him. The teacher let out a small laugh. “She’s always late. It’s fine. Name?” The teacher reassured him. “Uhm… my name is Cho Kyuhyun, sir.” Kyuhyun mumbled, trying to avoid looking at the other students. He shouldn’t be this nervous, he’s a senior for God’s sake. “Ahh. Kyuhyun, yes. Go ahead and take a seat. How about… next to Donghae.” The teacher said, pointing to a blob of brown hair laying on a desk in the back of the classroom. “Oh, god damn. I’ve told him so many times already…” The teacher cursed under his breath, grabbing a piece of chalk and chucking it at the said boy’s head. At impact, the boy’s head flung up and he wiped the drool from his mouth. “Wha-where?” He stuttered, and then realized the teacher’s death glare and shut up. Kyuhyun proceeded to take his seat.

“Mr. Kim is such an asshole. Don’t mind him. Oh, and I’m Lee Donghae.” The previously sleeping boy said as Kyuhyun sat down. “I’m Cho Kyuhyun.” Kyu said, shaking the other boy’s hand. The teacher was about to wrap up the lesson, and Kyuhyun couldn’t wait. Donghae wouldn’t shut up the whole lesson. Sure enough, though, Donghae pulled out his phone. “Hey… pssssttt.. Kyuhyun.” Donghae whispered. ‘Gah, what a pest’ Kyuhyun thought, turning to face Donghae. “This is my boyfriend, Hyukkie.” Donghae said, pointing to his screen. Kyuhyun took a sigh at relief at hearing this. He’s not the only gay kid here. “I’m sorry. Don’t be freaked out by me being gay or anything, I won’t hit on you. I promise.” Donghae began apologizing. “No, no. I am too, don’t worry.” Donghae smiled and sat back, staring at his phone.

A few minutes before they exchanged classes, the door opened and a kid with black hair, wearing a hot pink tee shirt and jeans strolled in, as if he was just on time. “Ahh. Lee Sungmin. Ditching class again, are we?” The teacher said, sounding disappointed. “I’m not ditching. I’m here, aren’t I?” The kid smirked back. Kyuhyun looked up and locked eyes with the boy, and for the first time, he swore he fell in love right there and then. “Donghae… who’s that?” Kyuhyun asked, not turning away. Donghae looked up and rolled his eyes. “That’s Lee Sungmin, and you should stay away from him.” Donghae said in an angry tone. “What? Why?” Kyuhyun asked immediately. “He is a rich snob. He’s bisexual, but everyone just loves him. Unlike you and I. Because he gets anything and everything he wants. What a brat, that kid.” Donghae rambled off. On the other hand, Kyuhyun glanced back at Sungmin who was now taking his seat. The boy smiled at him before kicking his feet up on the desk. “Ahh.. I see.” Kyuhyun replied, shutting Donghae up from his rant.

He didn’t see Sungmin the rest of the day until Biology class. Of course, he went through the torture of introducing himself and all, but that wasn’t the most nerve wrecking part of the class. Sungmin was actually on time to this class. After Kyuhyun took a seat, the teacher began the class. “Alright, we’re starting a new project with partners, so after I put the seating chart up, move to sit with your new partner.” She said, hanging paper on the wall. Kyuhyun got up to see who his partner was. “ Cho Kyuhyun - Lee Sungmin” The paper read, and Kyuhyun nearly fell over. He glanced back at the careless boy who didn’t even get up to find out who his partner was. He sighed in frustration, gathered his books and sat down beside the said boy.

“Okay, I’ll warn you now, you better get along with each other. Our project is going to be month-long.” Kyuhyun froze. “And most of the things are required to be at-home work.” Sungmin let out a giggle. “Well, I hope you know you’re doing everything. I feel bad for you poor, poor soul.” He said, completely changing Kyuhyun’s thoughts about him. “Excuse me?” Kyuhyun replied, turning to look at Sungmin. “What are you deaf? Are you stupid? You do work. Me do nothing.” Sungmin said, completely full of himself. Kyuhyun sighed to relax instead of punching the jerk in the face. “I can hear just fine. And by the looks of it, your hands don’t seem to be broken. Therefore, you’ll do your share of the work, or else I’ll turn in my share and land you with an F.” Kyuhyun simply stated the facts, earning a shocked look from Sungmin. Kyuhyun expected a threat or a smirk, ‘who do you think you are?’ but Sungmin only stared at him the rest of the lesson.

Before the class ended, Kyuhyun turned to Sungmin. “We have to do the first part of it tonight. Are we actually going to work together, or am I on my own.” Sungmin turned his head. “Work alone.” He huffed in disapprovement. “Whatever.” Kyuhyun said, gritting his teeth before picking up his books and leaving.

Finally, lunch break. Kyuhyun sat with Eunhyuk and Donghae at lunch, along with the few other close friends of theirs. He learned that all of them had been used by Sungmin. Basically, a one night stand and done with. Sungmin’s image was appearing worse to Kyuhyun. Leeteuk was the group umma, and his boyfriend, the group appa. Then their was Ryeowook and Yesung, the singing couple. Back to Donghae and Eunhyuk, who were the “children”. And then there was Heechul, who was all alone. As they all sat there, getting to know one another, an idea popped into Kyuhyun’s head. Earlier, when he had talked to HanGeng, the boy mentioned something about having to break up with his boyfriend before leaving China. He quickly scanned the cafeteria, and snapped a quick, ‘be right back’ at the guys.

Kyuhyun returned to the table a few minutes later with an unfamiliar face beside him. “Who is this?” Leeteuk asked, warm heartidly, of course. “This would be Hankyung. He’s from China. I met him earlier.” He said, sitting down. The only open chair was beside Heechul, according to plan. And by the end of their lunch break, Heechul and Hankyung were pretty good friends.

Kyuhyun got home from school and Ahra was still at classes. He warmed up some noodles and began working on the Biology project. He lost track of time, considering he was typing a paper. His sister came through the door with a loud, “KYUHYUN! I’M HOME!” He rolled his eyes and went to greet his sister. “How was your first day? Were they nice? Who picked on you? Point them out and I’ll beat them for you.” Kyuhyun hushed his sister. “Noona, calm down. Everything was okay.” She sighed. “Just okay? Not even good?” He smiled at his sister and sat down beside her. They sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes before Kyuhyun spoke up. “Ahra… do you miss umma and appa?”
