Dear Yuletide Writer

Oct 31, 2015 22:34

So I decided to try Yuletide this year (for the first time ever) because the list of fandoms to write in intrigued me. I understand it's helpful to post a likes/dislikes letter to help; here's my attempt.

This is rough for me, because I've learned in fandom never to say never. Generally, however, I dislike death fic, D/s, rape/noncon, torture, and h/c. I prefer slash but I have been known to enjoy gen and even het on occasion. I love AUs, crossover, canon divergence, alternate timelines, fun things like that, so if you're feeling crossover-y, don't stop on my account.

BoJack Horseman
Any Character
I'm fond of this entire show and many of the characters. Diane and Charlotte are probably my least favorites but I don't hate them. I love Princess Carolyn, Wanda, Todd, and of course BoJack, and I've grown to have some sympathy and liking for Mr. Peanutbutter. If you have an idea, go for it. Did Mr. Peanutbutter ever find out Diane was staying with BoJack? What did Wanda and Princess Carolyn (as two of the most well adjusted characters) make of each other? I ended up liking this show much more than I thought I would when my kids pitched it to me. It's got good story arcs, great character arcs, incisive humour, strong women, and it doesn't try to be all things to all people.

The Charioteer - Mary Renault
Ralph Lanyon
I admit I have a type: say, Francis Crawford, or Peter Wimsey... or Ralph Lanyon. He makes my heart ache. There is crossover potential here: I've read a few stories that have incorporated the Marlowes and at least one that had a chance sighting of John Walker, which was quite enjoyable. Or not; my heart's not set on it. And I know I said above I don't like deathfic, but I also understand there are strong canonical undercurrents of deathfic in this book. It is what it is.

Stardust (2007)
Any Character
The Dread Pirate Robert De Niro, er, Captain Shakespeare, that is, and his amazing crew. No, seriously. Knock yourself out. There's nothing that's not good about this film. I'm not asking for Captain Shakespeare, per se, just offering him as an example of a jumping off point; this film is full of them, and his relationship with his crew is just adorable.
