ohh myy godd... best 48 hours of LIFE.

monday: GORILLAZ at the apollo
tuesday: DAVID. FUCKING. GILMOUR.

gorillaz: the stage was backlit by gigantic rectangles of solid neon light, and the band was lined along the back so basically all you saw were their silhouettes. in the foreground was a full 14-piece orchestra, a 5-person chorus, and room for all the guest stars... one per song: de la soul, ike turner, a children's choir for dirty harry which was SO FUCKING COOL, a gospel choir, and some kind of gigantic traditional chinese instrument. i think they played all of demon days but i'll have to check the setlist... they were just SO fun, the band itself sounded great and the guest stars were so fun, damon albarn RULES... he only came out to sing one song in spotlight, at the end. our seats were in the center though so we could see the silhouette of his mouth singing the whole thing, which was sweet.

DAVID GILMOUR. okay. you guys know how much i love floyd, and always have. i am incapable of telling you what it felt like to see this show. it blew everything out of the water. oh my god. let's bullet.
- david sounded AWESOME. like, i know he's my idol, but seriously, he's like 59 or 60 years old and he can tear shit up on guitar, plus he played the saxophone! the man is just unstoppable, and his voice sounds like perfection, it was overwhelming.
- richard wright played with him and got a standing ovation when gilmour introduced his band... and they played his song from division bell, "wearing the inside out", it was so sweet for him to finally get some spotlight.
- DAVID CROSBY AND GRAHAM NASH came on stage in a surprise gueststarring appearance... yes! oh my god! i knew they sang on DG's new album a little bit, but they were THERE! we saw them sing!!! they harmonized with david gilmour! the three of them did a sing a capella! AHHH!!! nash was dancing around and getting into it, crosby just kinda stood there and looked fat. it was fanfreakingtastic.
- first set was all new stuff... sleep-inducing but very pretty
- second set was ALL. FLOYD. shine on you crazy diamond > wearing the inside out (rick!) > dominoes (syd!) > fat old sun > breathe > time > breathe reprise > ECHOES!!!!... wish you were here > comfortably numb.

echoes: oh my god. treated beautifully. the single greatest concert moment of my life. they did the WHOLE THING - intro, funk jam, the wash out, then into the buildup and then the orgasmic greatest guitar moment of all time, then the final verse and the outro... that guitar moment. um. the lights kicked out right at that second and green lasers started shooting around and the build was tremendous and i think i had like a seizure of absolute pleasure because it was just SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. oh my god! i can't believe that happened! i had to *come to terms* like seven years ago with the fact that i would never get to see echoes performed live. and there it was. in entirety. in radio city music hall, the best acoustics available in the country, and david gilmour...

wywh: sobbed.
comfortably numb: sobbed. good god. and after the show was over, we just sat there for like 15 minutes... i don't think i could move. during the final applause i felt like i was gonna faint just cuz it was so overwhelming. it surpassed every fucking dream.

okay i have to go class or something. this was like the greatest 48 hours EVER. oh, and bays and i went shopping in soho. yayyyayayy. I LOVE NEW YORK.
