Over the Hill

The polls have closed as an icy rain falls in Ohio. According to the news, the Democratic primary race in Ohio is too close to call, although it appears that Obama has won Vermont by a wide margin. I voted this morning for Hillary--my first ever vote in a primary--because hers is my stand on the issues and she has the wisdom of experience to lead this country to better economic prosperity and a resolution to the Iraq quaqmire. Obama has the charisma and sexiness factor that appeals to the Facebook crowd but lacks experience to deal with economic and foreign policy issues--which I firmly believe McCain will exploit to maximum effect in later presidential debates.

Ironically--I drove my carless boyfriend to the polling station this morning, where he cast a vote for Obama, thus cancelling out my effort. Uggh!

My fellow Democrats are deluding themselves, chasing after this big dream when we should really be grounding ourselves in the facts. I feel like I'm the only sober person in a party full of drunks. The bubble of enthusiasm will burst when the presidential race begins. But, then again, charisma goes far in American politics. The past two Democratic presidential candidates, Gore and Kerry, had considerable experience and intellect, making them likely Presidents. Kerry was running against a president with less experience, less intellect, and a war waged on false pretenses. Still he could not win the election. That's because Americans favor style over substance, pizazz over pedantics. Gore and Kerry resembled the stuffy, boring history professor, the East coast intellectual elite. Bill Clinton was just as intellegent but came across as an everyman. Obama's surplus of charisma but lack of experience may not be so detrimental after all...

Ultimately, I support whomever receives the Democratic nomination. As much as I like McCain, I can't support his stand on many issues that are important to me. But what I find most disappointing about this whole process is the undercurrent of sexism in this race aimed at Hillary Clinton. Disparaging comments about her appearance, her shrillness, the Hillary Nutcracker that you can buy on Amazon.com, also I found a "Cunts for Clinton" facebook group that not only has an disgusting and offensive title but a description that reads: "Why is it all the Hillary Clinton supporters look like ugly lesbians who can't get men? Is it possibly because all of their husbands cheated on them too? or maybe it is just because they want to vote for an ugly cunt that resembles the image they see in the mirror. I'm not sure, but I have yet to see a hot Hillary Clinton supporter."

I thought this was 2008, not 1808.

Update: Wow, Clinton is far ahead of Obama in Ohio so far!! but is behind Obama in Texas! I love Ohio!!!
