Woo I made it before midnight.

I will be working on the story some more later. I was tired and pressed for time, but I figured I'd do this up right quick. It's the same character that I'm using in the other story. She's one of my FFRPG characters, and she's fun to role-play. Marten is another character with whom she's been locking horns as of late. This is a bit of fantasizing on the player's part I admit. ;)

"Let me try this!"

"Marten, for the last time, no!"

"I'm sick of waiting!"

"Goddamnit Marten! If you run off again like last time I will stick my knife in your back! I will not fail another mission due to your idiocy!" Selene gave Marten a particularly nasty glare. She had to wonder what in the hell the higher-ups were thinking by keeping him alive and sending him on missions with her.

"You think you scare me Selene?" Marten cocked his head at her and smiled wickedly at her. "I know your type."

"You don't know shit about me Marten. And no, I don't think I scare you. You're either too dumb or too nuts to know you should be scared of me."

"Whatever. I'm going to go check out that room over there." Marten stood up and smoothed out his purple shirt.

"Get back down here," Selene hissed. "We're supposed to be waiting for the signal that the alarms have been disarmed!"

Marten just put his hand up and started walking away. "It's cool. I've got it under control."

"If you get hurt, I'm leaving you to rot! That's a promise." Selene gritted her teeth and did her best to remain in her hiding spot.

"Yeah, whatever. I'll be back in a bit."

Selene rolled her eyes and just waited. Why hadn't she killed him yet? Her boss was well aware of the problems Marten caused and how mentally unstable he was. She closed her eyes and listened. She knew it was a matter of time before Marten put the mission in jeopardy. In the past, she'd tried to stop him or repair whatever damage he'd done, but not tonight. Tonight she was going to leave him to fend for himself.

A few seconds later there was a shout and a few rounds of gunfire. Selene sighed. The mission was most likely botched beyond repair now. She sighed and got to her feet and started to walk away, heading for the meeting spot.

"Selene! I need backup!" Marten's voice sounded panicked and then he screamed after another gunshot.

Selene smiled to herself as she beat a hasty retreat. "I told you there'd be guards, and I told you I wasn't coming to save you." She knew he couldn't hear her as she headed down the stairs. "This time there's no one else around to stop me from leaving you to face the consequences of your actions."

Selene exited through the double doors that led into the research center. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the remote detonator. She didn't recover the files they were after, but she could complete the other mission objective and destroy the building. She didn't look back as she pushed the button and heard the first of a small series of explosions. She idly wondered if Marten had already been killed or if he was lying on the floor waiting for help to arrive as he bled to death.

She heard a larger explosion and she felt the heat that was now emanating from the building on her back. "Well, if he was alive, he's dead now." She chuckled darkly and tossed detonator off to the side after wiping it clean with a cloth.

Nick was waiting on her at the meeting place. "Where's Marten?"

Selene shrugged, "He sort of exploded on me."

Nick smirked and shook his head. "Boss'll be upset about this."

"Not really. She said herself that accidents happen on missions."

"Oh, I was referring to the fact we didn't get the files. As for Marten, good riddance."

Selene smiled at Nick. "Yeah, good riddance."
