I'm walking home much later than usual, heading down a sparsely lit residential street towards the catholic high shool whose back field borders on the park by my house. It's growing dark, the last of the blue evening ink draining into the west, a pair of suburban bats weaving in and out of the silhouettes of maples and poplar. A small grey cat sitting sphinx-like and still in a stand of tiger lilies catches me quietly singing Can't Take My Eyes Off of You. I'd never have seen her had her eyes not caught some faint hint of light and flashed like polished brass. I turn my head to her and she turns hers away. Her eyes go dark and she fades into night. I smile and take it from the top.
You're just too good to be true
can't take my eyes off of you
You'd be like heaven to touch...
