I like Hank's story so much better! Much more interesting - and realistic.

I think it's very telling that these stories are considered 'children's stories'.
And what happens to us when we grow up?

I always liked the real version better myself, personally. Although the one I know is where she ends up married to the prince, and for some reason has the children killed, cooked into a pie, and served to him at dinner.

As far as I know, what I have described is a real version.
Although I suppose it's impossible to count all the 'real' versions of fairy tales.
