Hello!
So you've decided to take on a month long writing challenge, but decided that November wasn't quite right for you - or perhaps you are just a glutton for punishment and wanted more. Whatever the case, welcome to
augnowrimo! AugNoWriMo is almost identical to the very popular
NaNoWriMo, which is [as quoted from the official NaNo site]:
...a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing [August] 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, [August 31].1
Valuing enthusiasm and perseverance over painstaking craft, [Aug]NoWriMo is a novel-writing program for everyone who has thought fleetingly about writing a novel but has been scared away by the time and effort involved.
Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in [Aug]NoWriMo is output. It's all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.
Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap. And that's a good thing. By forcing yourself to write so intensely, you are giving yourself permission to make mistakes. To forgo the endless tweaking and editing and just create. To build without tearing down.
[1.] Your goal in AugNoWriMo is set by you... mostly. The minimum goal is 5,000 words - which is a lot less than NaNoWriMo requires. Consider it a "warm-up" for November, if you'd like, or set your goal at 300,000 words this month - it can be done, and it's all up to you!
A few Basic Rules
1. Be kind to everyone else in the community.
2. After your introduction post, one of the moderators will add a tag to the community that is your user name. Every post thereafter, please tag it with your username. Forget more than two times, and your posts will be deleted until you remember. Organization matters.
3. Be honest. Lying about things is going to do nothing but hurt yourself.
4. Be active! You don't have to post everyday, but try and keep active in the community / chats / forums [when they're created]. Making friends is one of the best parts about the WriMos.
Now that you understand how this works if you didn't before, feel free to introduce yourselves. :]
