Picard and Riker in a corridor outside of a transporter room, discussing who will board an antique derelict alien ship they just found.
P: Number One...have you...have you ever dreamed of...climbing inside the bottle?
R: (incredulously) Sir?
P: The ship in the bottle.
Riker still doesn't get it.
P: Model airships? I used to build them when I was a child. My God, I bet I had a Promelian Battle Cruiser, too.
They enter the transporter room where Data and Worf are waiting on the transporter pad and O'Brien is standing at the console ready to beam them over to the alien ship.
P: You ready to beam down to the vessel?
O: Locked onto the main bridge, Captain.
R: You're certain about the atmospheric conditions, Data?
D: There is adequate oxygen for life support, Commander.
P: It is exactly as they left it, Number One (he turns to Data and Worf): in the bottle!
They don't get it either.
P: A ship in the bot-oh, good lord, didn't anybody here build ships in bottles when they were boys?
W: (with disgust) I did not play with toys.
D: (unphased) I was never a boy...
Pause while Picard absorbs the fact the he's really the only one who knows what the hell he's talking about.
O: (helpfully) I did, Sir!
P: (relieved) Thank you, Mr. O'Brien.
Picard joins Data and Worf on the transporter pad.
P: Proceed.
O'Brien activates the transporter and sends the away team to the alien ship.
I don't know why, but this was the most HILARIOUS scene I've ever seen in a TNG episode. I think it was Michael Dorn's uber-Klingon reaction to Picard's suggestion that he might have wasted his precious warrior training time playing with ridiculous toys, combined with Brent Spiner's impeccable-as-usual timing delivering Data's obvious, yet terribly amusing, line that made me laugh so hard. Anyway, I was bored and felt like sharing this with everyone.
Everyone always says that it's possible to achieve anything if you "put your mind to it." I wish I understood what that meant.
The end.
