Planning-related stuff has happened in the last month and rather than spend forever detailing said stuff in one big post, I'm going to Really, Really Try to catch zee eljay up a bit at a time.
The DIM and I each picked two sets of two peeps -- one set male, one set female -- to Serve and Protect Us, or somethin'.
My picks are:
- AE: My thirteen-year-old niece
- H: A mutual (female) friend from university who's been really supportive of our relationship and is fabulous, besides
- SN: One of my male friends
- D: A mutual (male) friend from university who's been really supportive of our relationship
The DIM's picks are:
- SR: a female cousin
- C: his best lady friend (we joke that she's his other woman)
- J: his brother
- M-P: his three-and-a-half-year-old nephew
Given her age and aversion to "old men", AE will likely be unpaired and escorted to the front of the church* by my brother-in-law or someone similarly suitable. M-P will be about four-years-old by the wedding and he'll likely have to bounce down the aisle alone. Should be interesting.
I've asked my two sisters to walk me down the aisle in lieu of my parents, and will likely ask my godfather to dance with me. Would also like to find a way to include my godmother.
We had a party so that the wedding party peeps could meet. Went rather well ... a bit boring for AE at first (apart from witnessing the burnt food droppings that caught fire in the oven) until we played some games ... Scotland Yard and Pictionary (a la whiteboard and words downloaded from the internet). 'Twas amusing to watch SN's turns ... his attempt to draw "contacts" as a "a person who might be of use; a connection" involving an address book and people** were only outdone by his reaction to the word "plant": after no one got that his plant was indeed a plant (I could tell, but the DIM said it looked like a tree -- whatever), he drew various ways to generate power ... including nuclear (the DIM quibbled over the clarity of SN's atom) and solar ... which were all to go to the "generation plant". Oy. I don't think either drawing attempt yielded success points-wise, but it was infinitely fun to see him break into a sweat during his turns. Dude.
It was also a time for baking, as I attempted to make cupcakes with beets and chocolate, oh my! I began by following a recipe but deviated at some point ... ::sigh:: I brought but a few, so the DIM, SN, and M-P each had one ... surprisingly edible, apparently. M-P, who had been rationed half a cupcake at first, came back for more saying, "This goooood." I'm sure it had nothing to do with the liberal coating of Betty Crocker French Vanilla icing.
Ah ... good times.
* Yes, you read correctly. The subject of a future post, I'm sure.
** At one point I swear he drew the Microsoft Outlook interface. There were many arrows. Oy.
