Inspired by a friend's t-shirt, I put together this little embroidery project (click for larger image):
I was pretty pleased with the result, considering it's the first time I've embroidered on a knit fabric and ready-to-wear (just try hooping a t-shirt!). The trophy design I downloaded from the
Husqvarna Viking web store for $2.50 (they're having a 25-75% off sale on a bunch of designs) and the lettering was one of the fonts that came included with my Designer 1. I put it all together and resized it using the limited on-board customizing on the D1, then stitched it on a t-shirt I bought at Target for $8.99. Target calls it their "
ultimate tee" and I have to agree! I tried t-shirts at JoAnn's, Old Navy (the "
perfect fit" tee, which wasn't), Sports Authority and Target before settling on this one. It's soft, comfy, fits well (most clothing from Target doesn't fit me correctly), and was a good weight to support the embroidery. They had different colors at the store than they do online.
On a related note, I had really good clothes-shopping luck over the weekend. Yesterday it was the ultimate tee. Saturday we went to
Outdoor World/Bass Pro Shops to pick up shooting supplies and I came home with several pairs of cute, comfortable summer shorts averaging about $10 each! Bass Pro is the last place I would have gone fashion shopping, but they have a line of clothing that is casual, comfortable and functional (when I can find pieces that fit me right). Friday I found five pairs of Dockers in Scott's odd-numbered size, four of them at prices that rivaled the outlet where we usually settle for the extremely limited selection in his size, and two in colors he hasn't worn in years (again because we can never find them in his size)!
I give part of the credit for my fabulous finds to my friend
Mimi, who I haven't seen in several months and who I always have good shopping luck with. She called me Friday morning for a spontaneous lunch at the mall, which kicked off my good-shopping-luck weekend!
