No-sew update

Spent the day making pattern modifications for my Imperial officer jodhpurs and a client's officer jacket. This involved chalking the adjusted mock-ups, disassembling them, and transferring all the changes to paper. BORING!! I didn't get to sew at all. My saving grace was that we held sewing class at my house, so I had great company to make it all go quickly. I actually finished with energy left. But not enough to start anything new!

Also today, I had Tina take my "Cynthia Guffey measurements". I think we spent more time preparing to measure than we did taking actual measurements! Cynthia's method involves a lot of masking tape, two straight rulers, a flex-curve, and of course a measuring tape. Instead of measuring all the way around the body, you measure from side to side. So for example, instead of a bust measurement (which usually turns out 34 for me), you get a "front bust" (18) and "back bust" (17-and yes, I know they add up to 35!). This method gives you measurements you can more accurately compare to flat pattern pieces, and allows you to make adjustments specifically where you need them instead of all over. Can't wait to try it out on my next pattern! Cynthia's fitting workbooks are available at her website (first two books on the page).

All this reminds me... a couple of weeks ago a few folks from our local Star Wars group ("Orlando System") got together for a "SEWcial" at my house. Mostly we worked on costumes for Star Wars weekends, coming up next month. Here are some photos from the event.

Tomorrow we're having an all-day "Jedi leatherworking" workshop, which I organized with the help of the friendly folks at Tandy Leather. We'll be working on belts, pouches, all the things every prepared Jedi should never leave home without!
