Title: Boys With Girlfriends Author: audreyii_fic Fandom: Twilight (Team Jacob) Rating: NC-17 Characters: Jacob, Bella, Edward (genderswap) Genre: Romance/Humor/Angst Warnings: Bad language and explicit sexuality.
The. Mental. Image. Can Ruth just run off and be with Embry? Or anyone from the pack? Which runs me into the question: was Harry right, in When Harry Met Sally? Can men and women not be friends?
Okay, you kind of lost me on the tent grinding. I understand that the sexual tension and frustration between the two of them is going to eventually boil over, but this seemed to come entirely out of left field. Interesting. I admit, I've never been able to underestimate the ability of hormones to crack through exhausted and fucked-up minds. But then again, I found it completely outside the realm of possibility that Jacob wouldn't have used his strong bargaining position to kick Edward's ass out of the tent, and that something like this would have then happened in canon. Fuck, I nearly found it outside the realm of possibility that it would have happened even with Edward *in* the tent. I'm not sure I've ever heard of teenagers spooning without it becoming sexual.
I'm not particularly fond of Mary, like at all, but Lucas rubbing up on another girl basically right in front of her is just too mean and something I don't think Lucas would ever do no matter how horny he was. If it had lasted more than about forty-five seconds, and had he been coherent enough to really think about the fact that Mary was nearby, he probably wouldn't have. But then, maybe not. I found it nearly pressed beyond my realm of plausibility that Lucas sent Ruth away last chapter, and he was way more in command of his senses at the time. That probably says something about my concept of teenage boys, though...
Why does everyone feel the need to be an ass to eachother? If there's one truth I've learned in life, is that people who love each other and are in pain can be absolutely vicious. I think that one's gender neutral.
Maybe it's because I relate more to Ruth because we're both ladies, but I ached for her here. I almost wanted her to just walk off and leave Lucas standing there, just so he'll freak out. Whoa. Harsh. That's a *lot* of sympathy for Ruth. (But then, I can't deny for an instant that this is my personal experience coming into play; threatening someone with suicide is about as bad as it gets in my book. No matter what they've done. I sympathized with Ruth -- as I sympathized with Jacob -- because they were cracking under unimaginable strain, but I still felt it was about the worst thing either of them did in the entire story.)
God, I have such a love/hate relationship with this story. The perils of general canon-compliance. Though, on the plus side, at least it's love/hate instead of pure hate, as in canon.
I know for a fact that it's possible to men and women to just be friends. My comment on shipping Ruth/Embry or Ruth/Pack is more of a reflection of how much I'm currently disliking Ruth/Lucas. At this point I don't think their relationship can be salvaged and would rather see Ruth cut ties and find someone else.
About the tent thing, I'm going to have to politely disagree with you. In my personal experience, one thing that can slice through sexual arousal real quick is the idea that you might get caught. (On the flip side it can also amp up arousal, depending on the person. But Lucas doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would find that sort of thing exhilarating.) I just don't think that Lucas would have done that, no matter how hazy and disoriented he was when he woke up. Granted, I've never woken up with an erection, but considering the fact that Lucas was able to turn Ruth away the other night when she was naked in his bed makes the idea that he couldn't stem his desires in a cold ass tent with his fiance near by a little outside the realm of possibility for me.
I sympathized with Ruth -- as I sympathized with Jacob -- because they were cracking under unimaginable strain, but I still felt it was about the worst thing either of them did in the entire story.
To me it was an eye for an eye. After all, Lucas threatened suicide a couple of chapters ago. The fact that he's deciding to turn into a vampire is basically killing himself, to Ruth. All the desperation and fear and emotional strain she felt--now Lucas understands, if for a brief moment, how it feels to have someone you love threaten to destroy themselves. It's cruel, and it's beyond the realm of not okay, but it also made Lucas put things in perspective. That's the way I interpreted it, at least.
It should be known that I didn't really care when Jacob did this to Bella in 'Eclipse'. No positive or negative reactions from me. Maybe it was because Jacob was so far gone at that point that I didn't find him understandable, but for Ruth it feels different. It's probably the way you've written her, or maybe it's because she's literally a girl!Jacob, but I feel as if she's my long lost BFF and I feel the need to viciously side with her no matter what.
My comment on shipping Ruth/Embry or Ruth/Pack is more of a reflection of how much I'm currently disliking Ruth/Lucas. At this point I don't think their relationship can be salvaged and would rather see Ruth cut ties and find someone else. That makes sense. I've just found it generally interesting that it's a common reaction to say, "Guy X is a douche and Guy Y just did something I don't hate, so I'm going to ship Girl with Guy Y." It's not just this story, or this fandom even... but it's always felt odd to me. (But then, I've never been able to 'ship outside of canon possibility. Zutara is pushing it for me.)
About the tent thing, I'm going to have to politely disagree with you. In my personal experience, one thing that can slice through sexual arousal real quick is the idea that you might get caught. Ah, that's probably where we come at it from a different perspective. Headcanon has it that "getting caught" never crossed Lucas' mind. Hell, Mary didn't cross his mind, period. If she had, yeah.
To me it was an eye for an eye. Yeah, probably that's where we differ again. While I get how people wind up there, revenge is just... never acceptable to me in a relationship. Romantic or otherwise. It worked, but it's an ends justifying the means argument, and barring *literal* apocalypse (hai, Ozai!) I never swing that way.

That's understandable. To me, Mary would've been the first thing he would have thought of, since Mary is always the first thing he thinks of. Thus no humping.

Agreed. That's why in my previous comment I said that I'd rather see Ruth cut ties with Lucas at this point, since I don't find their relationship salvageable.

See, I almost always swing that way. But my moral code is a bit different from yours.
