I'm also enjoying the conflict that Zuko is going through. In the series, he was always angry and not until Ember Island do we see why. I like how you've included a little more on his perspective.
I'm excited to read the next part. Thank you for sharing this.

It's totally believable that they would become better benders by just learning from each other. Or maybe that's my biased Zutura opinion.
I don't think it's biased. They're getting tons of practice and training, which in and of itself would increase their skill. But more importantly, before now they've not had much opportunity (none for Katara, none that we know of for Zuko) to spar with someone of equal skill. Their canon battles show that they're pretty evenly matched. I think they'd get to be pretty awesome if they were fighting on a regular basis.

Thanks :) Zuko has it rough. I think the flashbacks in Zuko Alone are probably the most telling for his character, but the fight in The Crossroads of Destiny was up there, too. The poor kid wants his family so bad. *

I agree with you. I really wish there had been so sparring moments in Book of Fire with Katara and Zuko, practicing. In fact, I think a nice sparring match would've been nice to see right before they set out for the palace to confront Azula. That would've been really neat to see.

Also a sense of belonging. Being exhiled for so long, I'm sure he just wanted to belong somewhere.

Their fight in The Crossroads of Destiny was the most sexually charged scene they had in the series, even higher than the tied-to-a-tree thing. (That's pretty much why I picked this as the hook for the story.)If there has been more fighting I would have spontaneously combusted in a way that would be entirely inappropriate for a cartoon.

Belonging, and acknowledgement of general worthiness. Mad snorgles. Mad.

I'm resisting clicking on post B so you don't get sent to special hell.

Not so subtle subject change.
So, what's your Zutara story? Are you a hater of Kataang? Or do you just prefer Zutara? :)

I find Aang to be deeply emo as the show went on, and not in the fun brooding way that Zuko is. By the end I wanted to shake him and I missed the fun, goofy kid who rode koi at the beginning of S1. I would not hate Kataang if there was some indication that it happened in the future -- that is, if at the very end of the series, they had just smiled at each other instead of kissing. But I find the idea that they got together right then to be creepy. It's not the age difference (which is about the same as Jacob and Bella and obviously that hasn't stopped me), it's ( ... )
