17 THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (USA, 2014)
Dir: Wes Anderson
Cast: Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, Edward Norton, Saoirse Ronan, Adrien Brody...
Zero tells the story of his younger days to a writer, and how he came to acquire the Grand Budpest Hotel.
(The plot is based on the works of Stefan Zweig)
Wes Anderson and his unique, creative style is always a breath of fresh in the midst of unimaginative Hollywood franchises.
It is difficult not to be seduced by this fantastic cast, and the flow of hilarious cartoonish characters. On an aesthetic level, Anderson is once more on top of his game. The pastel colors and doll house setting also make you wonder if you're somehow watching an animated feature.
For some reasons, I expected TGH to be Wes Anderson's masterpiece, and I was disappointed that it really wasn't. The sense of humor was weaker than usual, and the story was a little too picaresque for my tastes.
But this is still a great film, partly thanks to Ralph Fiennes' charismatic lead.
