It's so incredible that I can look back and remember when I was about to quit music. I had had enough of it and I wanted nothing more to do with it. Until Louis Armstrong came on. That one moment made me fall in love with music all over again, and since then it's been nothing short of a passion on a daily basis. I absolutely love listening to new things, analyzing others, and wrapping myself in the emotional blanket of everything I hear. It is a different language entirely, and one of the most universal communicators that ever existed. Lyrics or no, I find it so incredibly hard to be so objective about something that's so deep in my soul.
Music is not limited to songs written by artists, of course. There is music in every voice when you speak, a beat in every step, a note in every rustle of the leaves as the wind sighs its sweet melody to mother earth. The waves splash their rhythm against the grainy texture of the shore, whose gravel tells the stories of the millions of years gone by, the thousands upon thousands of travelers searching for meaning in such a chaotic existence.
If anyone has read the Shannara series by Terry Brooks, you'll understand when I say I wish I had the power of the wishsong. In fact, I believe I really could if I could just bury myself deep enough in my soul as I sang. I believe it's an intrinsic part of all of us, if we would only focus on tapping into our energy and using it for such a purpose. There is an incredible power in song. All you have to do is listen.
