Sick Kitty boy blue!

:(

Our kitty is sick. We dont know the details of how sick. I'll update when I can.

I'm putting the rest under a cut for anyone that doesnt want to hear details about a sick animal.

Sadness.

Kitty boy blue has not been doing well lately. He stopped eating after my cats arrived. We did not think much of it because of the home invasion and the stress it causes and simply separated him for planned meal times with fancy feast. This worked for a while, but then he stopped eating again and lost a lot of weight very fast. We took him to the vet and they said his thyroid had skyrocketed and he was in liver failure, one likely causing the other, but the chicken and the egg. Such an unfortunate conundrum. They took samples from a couple tiny growths and a fleshy mound. He lost a third of his body weight.

Ring ring the phone tells me the vet says the growths were atypical, but more tests needed to be run.
Oh but ring ring the phone tells me the vet says the growths are lymphoma.
Oh god.
I told you that before..
no no you said atypical. I don’t know about you, but I don’t assume lymphoma from Atypical.
oh well, I was probaby trying to avoid saying it, since its inconclusive.
Understandably. Poor kitty boy face head blue. Kemo for possible recovery or prednisone for comfort? We’re thinking quality of life here. Oh oh oh sadness. Either way he’s too sick to have treatment or to get the masses removed.

We put him on thyroid meds and he began to do much better... for about two days. Then he stopped eating again and really seemed to go downhill. Lethargic. Antisocial. Made himself a nice bed in a corner of the basement and spent all his time there. So we took him to the vet and they said sometimes this happens and he might need to go off the pills for ten to twelve days and then go back on them and they should absorb better. They took new samples of his growths and sent them back to the lab. Turns out the vet, who specializes in such things, saw lymphocytes on the slide, but the lab does not agree.

They weighed him and he lost another pound. He is skin and bones. You can see his frame and feel every vertebrae. His fur is patchy and lost its sheen. They gave us kitty boost and appetite enhancers and told us he was dying of starvation. We were instructed to give him half a pill and he should be ravenous. Its almost unheard of but if that doesn’t work give him one tomorrow and two the next day. Force feed him with this handy dandy syringe if all else fails.

Thank you doctor Julie?

So we took him off the thyroid pills and gave him the appetite enhancer and he did not improve and refused to eat. He was so drunk. Falling over, staring on the floor, boney butt up in the air for no reason. At one point we could tell he wanted to scratch his hind quarters cos he kept looking at it, but he couldn’t figure out how to get any part of his body to touch it. He would bend over and kind of fall. Lift a leg and get confused and put it back down. This was expected, so we went ahead and gave his one the next day. He was ravenous. Too much so? Made himself sick eating the wrong food and wouldn’t eat the kitty boost. So we force fed him and have been. He’ll eat tuna on his own, but that’s it. We still don’t know the results from the biopsies or the liver tests.

Yesterday we couldn’t find him for hours. We searched with flashlights and he was nowhere. We know why sick cats hide. Don’t think about it. Its sad. Lalala. He did come up later though. Ate Tuna. Gulped down some boost in a non voluntary manner.

Mary is freaked out.
He is my boy. she tells me. and he’s withering away and dying in front of me.
I love you honey. I’m sorry.

We did get the results from rerunning his thyroid tests and he had significant improvement, too much. He wasn’t on the med long enough to cause that much improvement? But he was still losing weight and not eating.. So they really don’t know what’s going on. He seems like he’s doing a little better, but we don’t know if we should trust it or not. Either way he’s getting food whether he likes it or not and more often than not he’s keeping it down.
