Budapest by Blimp

Yesterday was Christmas all over again for me. I got 3 packages of things I ordered over the last week or so. One work related bits and pieces. One various other things. The last from CDBaby. The CDBaby box contained my Thomas Dolby DVD and CD.

Back in September I saw Mr Dolby at Berklee. The DVD is the Berklee show, and the CD is a different (Chicago?) show. It is nice that he didn't release just an audio version of the same show. Since most of his show is sequenced, there is a lot of the same feel, but different enough that they are both worth owning if you are a Dolby fan.

As with probably most TD fans, I first heard 'Golden Age of the Wireless'. It was probably one of the first 10 cassette tapes I owned. I bought it while on a family vacation in Canada, and I'm still in search of the same version on CD. I do own a copy on CD, and it contains the same songs. However the CD I bought (and all other versions I've heard) have the songs in a slightly different order, and several of the songs are even a different mix, including 'Windpower' and 'Europa and the Pirate Twins', which are my 2 favorites off that album.

It wasn't till my freshman year of college that I heard any other TD. At about 3am, a friend and I were in the college's 2nd studio for the radio station blasting Flat Earth, or more specifically 'Hyperactive'... perhaps the only song in the world I can name within the first 500 milliseconds of the start. Heck, I think even many non TD fans can name that song in under a few seconds.

Anyway... I keep forgetting what a great song 'Budapest by Blimp' is... its not exactly a cheery song, but still a great song non-the-less. I guess that was the original point to this post
