Male Privilege Checklist

Now I haven't read the whole list yet, but man, #44 really struck a nerve:
[As a male] "Complete strangers generally do not walk up to me on the street and tell me to “smile.”"

Women: have you experienced this? I know I have, multiple times.

Men: have you experienced this? Does this ever cross the gender line?

While I could be wrong (I'll see how many of my male friends have experienced this), but I think it's a great example of the insidious ways inequality plays out day to day. Women are *expected* to be pleasant and smile, and somehow it's okay for a guy to request that we smile. Why?
